Rebuilding Financial Control Across a £10m Multi-Company Group

Restored confidence in the numbers across a multi-company group — clean ledgers, reconciled VAT and CIS, and reporting directors can rely on.

The situation

I worked with a group of businesses operating across construction, agriculture, and plant hire where the finance function required substantial clean-up before reliable reporting and forecasting could be produced. Aged receivables and payables were inaccurate, intercompany balances were unreconciled, and historic VAT returns had not been properly reflected in the accounts. The directors had limited visibility over cash flow, profitability, and future liabilities.

My role

My role was to restore confidence in the numbers and build reporting systems the directors could rely on.

Key improvements

  • Reconciled and corrected historic accounts across multiple companies
  • Rebuilt debtor and creditor ledgers
  • Reconciled VAT, CIS, payroll, and intercompany balances
  • Introduced cash flow forecasting and budgeting
  • Improved visibility over WIP and retentions
  • Implemented reliable monthly management reporting
  • Identified unclaimed Employment Allowance, securing approximately £16k in repayments

The result

Accurate financial reporting, improved cash visibility, stronger controls, and greater confidence in commercial decision-making across the group.

If you are managing multiple businesses and lack clear financial visibility, I can help bring structure, clarity, and control.
